Statistics · The Trade
25 jewelry industry statistics —
for the store writing the orders.
Twenty-five numbers that describe the 2025–2026 jewelry trade an independent store actually operates in: what shoppers buy, what the lab-grown supply chain ships, what the metal did, how natural supply responded, and how many stores opened and closed. Each statistic is traced to a named primary source with the period it covers stated next to it. Every figure was last verified against its source on July 4, 2026.

Half the engagement-ring market moved to lab-grown in six years, and the average lab-grown center stone nearly doubled in size — shoppers spent the discount on carats, not savings. The deep dive on this split, including the wholesale trajectory behind stat #5, is in our lab-grown vs natural price statistics.

March 2026 was the first month India — the world's cutting and polishing hub — exported more lab-grown carats than natural. Read stats 6 and 7 together, though: the crossover is a volume story, not a value story. At under $74 per exported polished carat, lab-grown is a manufactured commodity moving through the same factories at a tenth of the price, which is exactly why sourcing structure now matters more than stone type.

Gold's 53-record year, followed by a first half of 2026 that swung the spot price by more than a third of its peak value, is the operating environment behind every quote a store receives. Stat #15 is the sharpest one in this report: jewellery volume fell in every market on earth while jewellery value hit a record $172 billion. The largest natural producer took a half-billion-dollar loss and still cut production 12% rather than cut price 12% — scarcity defended at the mine. For a buyer, stats 16–20 are the reason natural wholesale prices have not chased lab-grown down, and the reason a natural piece keeps its role as the store-of-value item in the case.

The consolidation story is turning: closures fell to 145 in Q2 2025 while new retail listings rose 38%. The stores opening into this market face stat #24's forecast — gold averaging above $5,000 — which makes the boring mechanics decisive: per-gram pricing against a dated fix, published weights, shallow first buys. Forecasts are scenarios, not schedules; the June 2026 dip under $4,000 proved that within weeks of the forecast date.
Where Clazoire fits
Our stake, stated plainly.
Clazoire is a factory-direct wholesale supplier in the middle of several of these statistics: we manufacture in Surat (stat #6's hub), set natural and lab-grown stones with GIA and IGI certificates, price gold per gram in USD against the dated spot on our wholesale price index, and take minimums from 1 unit on most styles — the shallow-buy mechanic the volatility data argues for. Open a wholesale account if the numbers make the case; cite the page either way.

The Specifics
The numbers, answered straight.
By volume in places, by value nowhere close. Lab-grown reached 48% of U.S. engagement rings in 2025 (BriteCo), and in March 2026 India exported more lab-grown carats than natural for the first time — 51% of export volume, per Edahn Golan's analysis of GJEPC data. But lab-grown is still under 9% of India's diamond export value, priced 88–92% lower per carat. The two products have split into different markets rather than one replacing the other.
Both, and the balance improved through 2025: the Jewelers Board of Trade counted 145 business discontinuances in Q2 2025, down from 196 a year earlier, while 98 new businesses were listed in the quarter and new retail listings rose 38% year on year. Consolidation continues, but formation picked up.
2025 averaged $3,431/oz, up 44%, with 53 LBMA all-time highs (World Gold Council). The first half of 2026 then swung from an intraday $5,595.47 on January 29 to $3,959.33 on June 24, with realized volatility topping 50% against a 17% twenty-year average. J.P. Morgan's June 2026 forecast has gold averaging $5,243/oz in 2026 and $6,263/oz in 2027 — a forecast, not a promise.
Supply is being managed down to defend price. De Beers produced 21.7 million carats in 2025 (down 12%), realized $142 per carat (down 7%), booked $3.5 billion of revenue, and absorbed a $511 million underlying EBITDA loss — while guiding 2026 production to 21–26 million carats rather than flooding the market.
Every figure is traced to a named primary source — De Beers Group reports, BriteCo's 2025 research, Edahn Golan's wholesale price list and India export analysis, the World Gold Council's Gold Demand Trends and mid-year outlook, the Jewelers Board of Trade's own Q2 2025 statistics, Fortune Business Insights, and J.P. Morgan Global Research — with the period each number covers stated next to it. Figures that could not be verified against a primary source were dropped rather than estimated.
