Canadian jewellery retail —
the Statistics Canada numbers.
Canada's jewellery, luggage and leather goods retailers took in CAD $5.83 billion in 2024 at a 45.7% gross margin, and the country's 2,542 employer jewellery retailers are overwhelmingly independent — about 78% have fewer than 10 employees, with Ontario holding roughly 40% of them. Every figure on this page was pulled directly from Statistics Canada's public data tables and was last verified on July 5, 2026. All dollars are CAD.

The one-line read: Canadian jewellery retail is a growing, healthy-margin, deeply independent industry — thousands of small stores rather than a few chains — concentrated where the population is, with Ontario alone holding two of every five stores in the country.

Revenue grew about 7% across 2022–2024 and gross margin crept up to 45.7% — yet operating margin eased from 11.2% to 10.5%, because costs grew faster than sales. The spread between those two margins is the whole game for a Canadian store: roughly 35 points of revenue go to running the business, so the profit line moves at the purchase order, not the register. That is the same conclusion the U.S. federal numbers reach in our US jewelry store statistics — at a strikingly similar gross margin.

Nearly half of Canada's jewellery retailers run on one to four employees, 78% run on fewer than ten, and exactly eleven businesses in the whole country employ fifty or more. The structural consequence for sourcing is direct: an industry of small stores cannot buy like a chain — shallow first orders, reorder on sell-through, and minimums that fit a two-person counter. The economics of that buying pattern are worked through in our Canadian supplier guide.

Ontario's 1,009 stores make it the largest jewellery retail market in the country by a wide margin. The thinner rows matter just as much: only 380 jewellery wholesalers and 333 manufacturers serve those 2,542 retailers domestically — a supply layer one-seventh the size of the store base — which is why so much Canadian retail sourcing runs through US wholesalers, overseas marketplaces, or direct-from-manufacturer channels, as mapped in our Canada wholesale page.
Where Clazoire fits
Our stake, stated plainly.
Clazoire is a Toronto-headquartered, manufacturer-direct supplier to exactly the stores these counts describe — the under-ten-employee independents that hold 78% of the industry — with minimums from 1 unit, GIA/IGI-certified stones, insured shipping across Canada, and CAD-ready quoting checked against a dated gold price index. Sources & Methodology

- Annual Retail Trade Survey, Summary Statistics (Table 20-10-0083 — jewellery, luggage and leather goods retailers, Canada) — Statistics Canada, 2026.
- Canadian Business Counts, with employees, December 2025 (jewellery retailers, wholesalers, and manufacturers by province and employment size) — Statistics Canada, 2026.
Each figure states the period it covers and was last verified against its primary source on July 5, 2026. Figures that could not be traced to a primary source were dropped rather than estimated. Prices move; treat these as dated benchmarks, not quotes. Spot an error or hold newer primary data? Send a correction via our contact page and we'll update the page and credit the fix. This page is free to cite with attribution. All dollars are CAD. The financials cover Statistics Canada's jewellery, luggage and leather goods retail group (jewellery-led, not jewellery-only); business counts cover employer businesses (with employees) under the jewellery-retailers class. Computed shares are labeled and stay within one dataset — the two frames are never blended.

The Specifics
The numbers, answered straight.
CAD $5.83 billion in total operating revenue in 2024 for the jewellery, luggage and leather goods retail group, per Statistics Canada's Annual Retail Trade Survey — up from $5.43 billion in 2022. The classification is jewellery-led but includes luggage and leather goods retailers, so treat it as the sector ceiling rather than a jewellery-only figure.
2,542 jewellery retailers with employees as of December 2025, per Statistics Canada's Business Counts — plus 380 jewellery and watch wholesalers and 333 jewellery and silverware manufacturers. Owner-operated shops with no employees sit outside this count.
Overwhelmingly: about 78% of Canada's employer jewellery retailers have fewer than 10 employees (1,158 have 1–4 and 825 have 5–9), and only 11 businesses in the country have 50 or more, per the December 2025 Business Counts. Canadian jewellery retail is an independent-store industry, not a chain industry.
A 45.7% gross margin and a 10.5% operating profit margin in 2024 for the jewellery, luggage and leather goods retail group, per Statistics Canada. Gross margin has crept up since 2022 (45.3%) while operating margin eased from 11.2% — revenue grew about 7% over two years, but costs grew faster.
Ontario, with 1,009 of Canada's 2,542 employer jewellery retailers — about 40% of the country — followed by Quebec (563), British Columbia (412), and Alberta (296), per the December 2025 Business Counts.
